Westside School is trying to solve the problem of diverting tens-of-thousands of pounds of food scraps from the landfill each year. The Compost Club keeps a lead person to take on the recycling duties, so that the composting process can start. They estimate the amount of worm bins to keep the food waste running smoothly. They then raise funds for the school or business through their fundraising efforts, and install the system when the funding is secure. The Compost Club even shares a school-wide lesson called "Recycling Changes Everything". This is meant to raise awareness teach skills for students to learn and understand. The club encourages the schools to sell the compost, and aren't surprised when they earn $1,000 annually! All in all, The Compost Club has solved the problem of the food waste, providing fresh, rich soil in return, and earning money for making a difference.
